(Reuters) - As Microsoft Corp. ramps up production of its upcoming XBox video game console this week, game publishers and some analysts have started to question whether the company can make its target for the number of units available for the November launch. Microsoft has previously said it would ship 600,000 to 800,000 consoles when it launches the new system on Nov. 8 in the United States and between 1 million and 1.5 million by year-end. But the software giant will not know how many of its forthcoming XBox consoles it will have available on the much-heralded launch day until production at a plant in Mexico hits full capacity, a spokesman said on Wednesday.

Weekly CPU Prices: Nothing you'll find on our price charts, this week, is going to make you drop everything and buy a processor. But by the same token, the recent price drops have already made a number of processors on both the Intel and AMD charts attractive buys; and while they're no longer plummeting down, they haven't shot up either. Check out this week's guide to see just where everything stands.

(Reuters) Top personal computer makers, including Dell Computer Corp. said they have begun selling some PCs with Microsoft Corp.'s widely anticipated new Windows XP operating system four weeks ahead of its scheduled launch, in a speedy turnaround that analysts say is designed to help slumping sales. The PC makers said they would ship the PCs with the latest version of the dominant operating system on Sept. 24. That will put XP into the hands of businesses and consumers about four weeks ahead of the scheduled retail launch date on Oct. 25.

(Press Release) VIA Technologies, Inc announced that is has filed suit against Intel Corporation for patent infringement by the Intel Pentium 4 microprocessor family. The suit, filed in the Federal District Court for the Western Division of Texas (Austin Division), the home of Centaur s headquarters, alleges that Intel Pentium 4 microprocessors infringe, contribute to the infringement of, or induce others to infringe VIA and Centaur s U.S. Patent Number 6,253,311 (the 311 Patent). This patent, which is jointly owned by VIA and Centaur, deals with the different formats in which numeric data may be stored in a microprocessor.
VIA and Centaur seek a ruling from the Court that would enjoin the sale of Intel Pentium 4 microprocessors, as well as a request for monetary damages for both VIA and Centaur. VIA purchased the Austin-based Centaur from Integrated Device Technology, Inc. of Santa Clara, California in 1999. Recent microprocessor products produced by Centaur include the VIA C3", which has the world s smallest x86 processor die size, making it especially useful for portable, low power computing applications.
"VIA is not only a leading provider of core logic chipsets worldwide, but also is becoming an important supplier of PC microprocessors, thanks to the hard work of our CPU designers in Texas," said Richard Brown, Director of Marketing for VIA Technologies, Inc. "Filing this lawsuit is the first step in protecting our intellectual property rights."
