I want MGS2. Not to mention FFX.

You're right X-Box will screw every single console game machine out there!

X-BOX is the real thing! it will rock!

Does everyone else notice how consoles are slowly starting to resemble PC's? I love console games too, but PC gaming is way advanced.

Playstation2 is using a custom design CPU, unlike some crappy X-box.

Even a 733 MHz PIII won't have as much floating point power as a 300MHz Emotion engine.
    MUHAHAHAa

    X-box stinks!
    Long live Playstation2!

    I wanna MGS2 too!

But how will it translate to the screen? You can add a GeForce GTS to a PIII-733 and make it look great. Can you do the same with the PS2?

Don't get me wrong, I am a console fan too. I am just saying that the power lies on the PC side.

Yeah, but the X-Box's Pentium III processor makes up for the lower FPU performance by brute forcing the Megahertz. The two processors should about equal up in terms of speed, but the real difference will be on the graphics processor end. I don't know for certain, but it really looks like the nVidia chipset with X-Box will really rock the Gfx Synthesizer on the PS2. But what really makes the difference is GAMES. If the games aren't as good on X-Box, all the specs in the world won't save them.

So true. What is the point of having good hardware if there is nothing to run on it.

    Consoles in general suck.

Even Hi-Def TV's will max out at 800x600, at nowhere near the fine resolution of a PC monitor.

Sure, some of these new console's will be able to use a PC monitor...but what is the point then??

Just get a PC. Then you're not locked into hardware that was mostly revolutionary two years before, but now is behind the curve compared to PC techology!

The only thing the PC industry needs is the same sort of QC and production cycle that the console games seem to enjoy.

First of all, I was under the impression that HDTV was much higher than 800x600. (Can anyone verify this?). Also, what does resolution do for you anyways? For the most part, it smoothes the edges of polygons, and gives you a clearer image of what you are viewing. I believe high resolutions do well with improving the way a lot of current games look, but I also feel that it is a poor alternitive to higher polygon counts and more detailed textures.

Look at the Dreamcast game Resident Evil. I know most people reading this have never seen that game, but let me tell you the real time graphics put most PC games to shame... and in a big way! Resident Evil for Dreamcast is only in 640x480 resolution, yet it can easily surpass a large number of current PC titles in terms of the look and feel of the game. The developers (Capcom) took a great amount of time designing the character models, and putting in textures that give the game a very realistic look. It is just my opinion, but I find a lot of Dreamcast games can be put on the same level as PC games in terms of graphics, and all at a resolution far lower than the PC offers.

Console games have always been successful on televisions with poorer quality than monitors, so I don't think this will change when HDTVs go up against monitors in the next generation of consoles either.

Look! This is the way the consoles rank:

    1. X-box (Best, unreleased)
    2. PS2 (Good now, unreleased in Europe)
    3. Dreamcast (decent, cheap)

Of course the Nintendo Gamecube will be the best gaming machine, but with no good games, and no other features (no DVD...)

The PC is and will always be the choice for the hard core gamer. I will stick to the unbeatable NES (8bit) though :-)

    By F-scape September 20, 2000, 08:56 PM

Exactly when will the Dreamcast rock? It's been out like a year already and noone buys it. It's a big flop. Too bad, but it looks like Sega wont be around for much longer.

Sega already has a user base of over 4 million. That's not too bad for a new console, and it's more than the Playstation had one year after release. I don't know if it's enough to compete with the big boys, but for now, I am very impressed with the quality of Dreamcast games.

    By Droopy September 21, 2000, 07:00 PM

Sega got 4 million user in almost 2 years.

and Sony got 3.5 Million user in only 6 months.

X-box got ?????? user in xxxxx months?

and also I know that the 3D chip x-box will use it's much better then the PS2 one.

but hey, don't forget, X-box is 1 year something after Ps2 launch

(PS2 Launch @ March in Japan, X-box will launch about Oct 2001, That's almost 1 year and 7 months!)

    By Droopy September 21, 2000, 07:01 PM

    OoooooooPS!

    Forgot about one thing

Gamecube will got xxxxx user in xxx months???
