transistors are what 64yrs old?(correct me if I'm wrong), what will happen when we can't shrink the size anymore without compromising the integrity of it? are we gonna see some of that crazy quantum theories come true(i.e. using +charged and -charged electrons)? or is someone gonna invent something new? or transistors with multiple b c e's?

Well before, video/audio quality will be maximum for us. So if you're about Quake5 then don't worry.

The theory behind them was developed in the 1930's, but the first transistors weren't developed until the1950's.
I for one don't think many of these quantum computer theories will work out. Not because the theory behind them is flawed, but because there is no practical way to mass produce them. One of the key's to the explosion of semiconductor based devices is the ease with which they can be constructed. There are also other problems that will pop up even before the transistor size one. Other people here disagree with me though. Here is a thread I started here not to long ago on a similar topic. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/Forum27/HTML/000138.html

Even quantum computers will be using the idea of transisters. But, instead of transistors made out of semiconducting material, they will be made out of Atom strings like proteins or nucleac acids. It's still the same idea, though. Transistors won't go away... computers are built out of them. They will simply come in new forms. By the way, the transistor may be over 50 years old, but the integrated transistor, which is the one used today, is only about 25-30 years old.

oh ic..but now I wonder how they'll improve the transistor..

a transitor is simply a gate for something to pass thru. Weather its electricity(current), light(optical computer), or quantum particles, its still just a gate. Therefore, as long as computers operate this way, they will be in the computer
