    KA266 ROX!
    By amd_freak March 20, 2001, 12:14 PM

    It's leet.

This is the old freak speaking.

Anyone want to see the benchmarks?

Newbie_Overclocker might turn over in his Intel grave.

    By amd_freak March 20, 2001, 12:16 PM

BTW, this is my first homemade rig and my first overclock!

Saps, are you looking for more members to join the Knights?!

By Gerbil Spit March 20, 2001, 01:13 PM

Hey congrats, nice rig. I am making the decision to go KK266-R or KA266-R. Can't decide yet. PC2100 ram is a lot more. Did you have any problems with the SB live, like, chipset issues or with the FSB overclock adding to the PCI bus.

    By jamesavery22 March 20, 2001, 02:09 PM

Hey freak how did you get that pc2100 crucial ram and how much did you pay? I was lookin for the same stuff but couldn't find it.

    By amd_freak March 20, 2001, 03:43 PM

    No problems.

I could easily run the ram @ 146. I flashed the bios the the 1.3 version with those aforementioned problem fixes, so no problems here.

I got it from Crucial. Apparently, someone put the ram out on their website early and I was one of the few to snag some. I paid $57 dollars a stick for 128MB PC2100 CAS2.5 double-sided DDR. It hurts. I know.

    By amd_freak March 20, 2001, 03:59 PM

Gerbil, I wouldn't have bought the KA266 if the DDR wasn't 57 bucks a stick.

Man, it's your money. You have to decide for yourself whether DDR is worth the extra Benjamins. Personally, if you're paying $100 bucks a stick of 128MB of any type of RAM, you're being ripped off IMO.

Get the KK266 couple it with a 1.2C and 256MB of Mosel Vitalic from Memman. Save that extra dough for a Radeon II or a GeForce 3. Performance wise the boost will come from there.

Do you have any screen shots of any sort of benchmarking?

    By Yosarian March 21, 2001, 03:18 AM

Serve up the benchmarks! I'd like to see how other KA266-R owners are doing!

If I sent em, could someone post em.

I don't have any access to webspace and my knowledge of UBB code is limited.

    By amd_freak March 21, 2001, 11:16 AM

I'll put out the raw numbers until I can get someone to post the screenshots.

    Dhrystone ALU 3599
    Wheststone FPU 1731

    Int ALU/RAM Bandwidth 617 MB/s
    Float FPU/RAM Bandwidth 840 MB/s

    Integer MMX Enh 7174 it/s
    Floating-Point 3DNow! 8773 it/s

    3D Mark 2001 1024x768x32: 3681

I've pretty much tweaked it the best I could without any heavy CPU overclocking. However, I should be able to get 10x146 with the cooling setup and the AXIA Week07 1.2C T-Bird I have.

    Thanks man.

I really wanted to see the memory benches to determine how much faster DDR-SDRAM is. When I invest, I want to see good memory results.

The VIA KT266 chipset, supposedly better than ALi Magik 1 has been previewed by VIAHardware, check it out. Very disppointing memory benchmarks.

You cannot directly post images on this forum. Sign up for a free web account, post your images in the account, and link it to this forum. Read the FAQ on how to do this. I really really really want to see those memory benchmarks. I'm still deciding between two boards, the A7V266 which uses the KT266 chipset and the board you have. I need a board with RAID and DDR support, so its either one or the other. ASUS just released the A7A266 which uses the ALi Magik1 chipset as well. Wouldn't mind seeing some benchies on that too.

    By Canadian March 21, 2001, 01:18 PM

    aha... just had another idea.

Ask FATS in the overclockers forum... he'll post em for you. We have few benchmark screenshots for DDR rigs in the forum. The KA266 board is getting much skepticism because of the ALi chipset. With those memory benchmarks, you could prove them wrong.
