    LucasArts Very Disappointing
    By jedimasterk April 28, 2001, 02:16 AM

LucasArts should get out of the PC gaming market. It's been years since they produced a good quality StarWars based PC game. First they were going to bring ObiWan to the PC. Then they decided to cancel it for the PC, with some sorry excuse!. People were really looking forward to it. I personally feel their designers really didn't know how to finish it. So what did they give PC gamers?. Battle for Naboo. A complete flop according to many reviews. One review gave it a 15% out of 100%. Bad!!. If LucasArts can't cut in the PC arena, then give the StarWars rights to a company who can like Valve or ID. LucasArts has been a big disappointment to the PC gaming community.

    By Brek April 28, 2001, 02:44 AM

i totally agree with you.... well yea, thats about it

By Mandorallen of Molynnr April 28, 2001, 03:41 AM

I agree. I've been waiting for another Jedi Knight for the the past three years. It doesn't look like Lucas Arts will be able to make one.

After "Battle for Naboo" (which looks exactly like Rogue Squadron, a game 3 years old.) I really feel disappointed. Especially for a company that can release games like X-Wing Alliance and Jedi Knight.

    By Strange1 April 28, 2001, 03:55 AM

It seems its just there Star Wars devision which has crapped out. I really did enjoy Grim Fandango and even Escape From Monkey Island wasn't to bad.

    By Blizzard April 28, 2001, 05:21 AM

Lucasarts game Grim Fandango was great !In fact I think it's one of the best games I've ever played. Also, the Curse of Monkey Island was a good game.

Grim Fandango is a oldish game.

    By Vizer April 28, 2001, 08:37 AM

battle for naboo is MUCH worse than rogue squadron and i thought rogue squadron was a poor game....

i agree lucasarts came up with some magnificent games but the feeling is almost dead now, they have overrun the market with low quality repeats of their original games time and time again, players ad the market are sick of it. even die hard fans don't buy these games anymore....it is sad but i believe, unless of course there is a miracle, lucasarts are going to die very soon. even the last star wars movie was a flop, george lucas and all that are under him are just riding the star wars name a little bit too much....

By Mandorallen of Molynnr April 28, 2001, 01:02 PM

I didn't think that the last Star Wars movie was a flop. I enjoyed it. Darth Maul is one cool charactar, and the special effects were good.

That movie made more in the first two weekends than Titanic.

    By BuggyLoop April 28, 2001, 04:22 PM

    solution: consoles

Lucas art is console only now. Obi-wan will be on consoles this E3, they are working on a new bunty hunter game from star wars, for consoles, again.

    By Mr_Q April 30, 2001, 06:56 AM

I agree with opinions here.Anyway i know Jedy Knight licence was sold to Activision or something, cant remember right atm.So maybe we have the chance to see another good Jedi game sometimes in the future...

    By Bataar April 30, 2001, 02:01 PM

They just need to sell their Star Wars division. (Yeah, like that's gonna happen). The last good Star Wars game, IMO was Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. That game rocked. The best game they released before that was TIE Fighter.

Got them both, after the Jedi Knight series there has been nothing much of worth. I admit I did like podracer though, shame you couldn't set the difficulty, way too easy.

    By jmike April 30, 2001, 10:40 PM

Ahhhh, but there is a StarWars RPG in the works coming from Bioware based on the infinity engine I believe. That ought to be interesting how another company can do it(of course LucasArts is overseeing theproject)

    By busithoth May 01, 2001, 02:01 PM

That's right, Pod Racer was enjoyable, if too easy...I remember one course being insanely hard compared to all the other tracks...

but before that, I enjoyed Jedi Knight, TIE fighter and x-wing alliance.

I even tried to give Rebellion a series of tries before I conceded that it plain stank crap.

I suppose calling Lucasarts disappointing is better than just saying it sucks, but it's also beating around the bush.

By Mandorallen of Molynnr May 01, 2001, 02:06 PM

quote:That's right, Pod Racer was enjoyable, if too easy...I remember one course being insanely hard compared to all the other tracks...

That one track in the clouds? Where you have to race on a narrow platform, if you fell off that you had to take a track 70% longer than if you had managed to stay on that platform?

That was a good game though. Episode 1 - the Phantom Menace Adventure wasn't to bad either, just way too short, and the force powers were pathetic after playing Jedi Knight.

    By Gianthatr May 02, 2001, 11:19 AM

FYI Lucasarts has a new RTS game coming out that is using the Age of Empires 2 engine...looks promising Read about it in PC Gamer

By Ladies Room Peeper May 02, 2001, 11:44 AM

    Starwars MMORPG too don't forget.

    By baklaguy May 02, 2001, 11:46 AM

I would play a game or two of Dark Forces II if I had the disks. I still have Tie Fighter on my 486...just need to replace the battery. The last good Star Wars game was X-Wing Alliance. I actually still play from time to time. I recently got a mission that has you fly the X-Wing into the Death Star rather than the Millenium Falcon. It's pretty darn cool. Why the hell haven't they continued with these great games? Could you imagine a new Dark Forces game using today's best graphics engine? Or how about an updated Tie Fighter game with story driven missions just like X-Wing Alliance (but without the bad voice acting...why the hell did Ace's brother have a Scottish accent while everyone else had an American accent).

    By UCYoda May 02, 2001, 10:43 PM

Let's not forget Force Commander and how bad that was. Had potential to be a great game, but the interface blew chunks. Starfighter rules for PS2 though!! Supposedly it's coming for PC in august so LucasArts may be able to redeem themselves for PC gamers. I just can't count them out yet. Galaxies (the mmorpg) should be sweet and I can't wait to see some stuff from Battleground (the RTS based on the AOEII engine).

i notice not too many of you acknowledge lucasarts graphic adventures which are and always have been the best of their kind. escape from monkey island was no slouch, and i hear full throttle 2 is in the making. guess most of you are too young to remember maniac mansion. the scumm engine has developed quite nicely.

My main gripe is the Star Wars games that suck. Monkey Island was good, so was Grim Fandego. Full Throttle was a damn cool game, and hopefully Full Throttle 2 follows suit.

    By Satan's Cheerleader May 03, 2001, 01:11 PM

i have a gripe with just about anything star wars lately.. game, movie or other.

only the books still keep a little bit of the excitement going for me anymore.

    By busithoth May 03, 2001, 01:47 PM

Did anyone else get the patch that allows you to pilot the star destroyer in x-wing:alliance? a friend of mine tried it, and said it was fun at first, but so slow...

starfighter on PC? I'd give it a try, it looks awesome. I just hope PC tech can support such an advanced game-

anyone have any comments on that indiana jones infernal machine game? I keep pausing my eyes on it in the stores, then move on...

    (got undying instead)

I downloaded the demo. It was like playing with a slow ugly Lara Croft with crap weapons. That was just the demo though.

Is Undying good enough to buy?

By Ladies Room Peeper May 03, 2001, 01:59 PM

I'll keep you posted on the Indy Game. I just got it this past xmas and haven't played it yet cause of B&W. I'm a die hard Harrison Ford fan and really want to try it.

    By LiquidCrash May 03, 2001, 03:43 PM

Well, here's another bad choice made by LucasArts. If you haven't heard, an Unreal Tournament level designer released a Star Wars pack the other day to the Unreal community. LucasArts didn't like this and told that mapper to take off all the StarWars related stuff on his website. Here is the snippet that I got from PlanetUnreal:

quote:After receiving a 'cease and desist' order from Lucas Arts, UT Builder has reluctantly removed all of his Star Wars-related material from his site. BadKarma had quite a bit to say about this action on his site:

Two days ago, 23 years of being a fan of the star wars sadly came to an end. I received an order from Lucas arts to cease and desist my map making and I was also branded a criminal as well.

I have enjoyed the star wars universe all my life, but as you can imagine this has just turned my stomach. I fail to see what harm a no name mapper is doing to Lucas arts in creating SW maps that are fun to play and more importantly free of charge, especially when Lucas arts themselves can't string together a half decent game let alone a good on.

If they have repeatedly wasted the chance to make some great games for this awesome franchise, then that is no reason to have a go at the little guys. Or is it that they are afraid that someone like me could do a good job with little recourses and a few friends on board (I was putting together something very cool on that SW front with a couple of guys for UT) than a multimillion-pound company such as Lucas arts has failed to do.

    Sad indeed.

Hmmm,...Well what many of you all don't know is Verant(everquest) has taken on a prod-ject with LucasArts Over the past year or so to make one huge STARWARES ONLINE GAME!

So cut them some slack man...

    By BuggyLoop May 04, 2001, 10:09 PM

I dont think its a good thing that verant is handling the star wars license for the online game, they will probably screw it all up. I can see it already..

    Very entertaining was that post.

The thing is that universe will be overflowed by Jedi Knights. Who wants to be a stupid storm trooper?

    By Gianthatr May 05, 2001, 10:55 AM

    that was funny...good post

    By jedimasterk May 05, 2001, 08:47 PM

It would have been nice if they could have created a whole new first person shooter for the PC as well!. Seperate from the Dark Forces series. I did hear about the UT Builder. Lucas Arts is making a big deal out of nothing. So someone wants to bring the StarWars universe to Unreal Tournament. Can't blame someone who's just having fun with a game.
