Does any body know about GraphicCards &Notebooks?
    By marouane June 13, 2001, 06:55 PM

I want to buy a Notebook and I am hesitating which. I want to get an Athlon 4 one, the only one i find is the Compaq 1200z with 1700$: 5 i configured it by my self)
    Presario 1200 Series
    1GHz AMD® AthlonTM 4 Processor
    192 MB SyncDRAM 133MHz
    15.0 GB UltraDMA Hard Drive
    24X CD-ROM Drive (i don't need a dvd)
    14.1" TFT XGA Display
Microsoft Featured Home Collection w/ Word
56K Modem Card and 10/100 NIC
ATI Mobility hardware accelerated 3D Graphics with 8MB Video Memory
    3.5" 1.44 MB diskette drive
    AC Adapter Included
    3.6 A/h High-Capacity LiIon Battery
JBL Pro Audio System with Bass Reflex
Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition with XP Home Edition Upgrade Offer
    1yr Parts / 1 yr labor/1yr mail-in/ 1yr carry-in

MY PROBLEM IS: I don't know if the Graphic card (ATI 8MB) is good or not. I heard that GeForce 2Go 32 MB is out and Dell is having them in their Notebooks. Can the Geforce 2go have a dramatic increase on the performance? is the ATI 8 MB (with a 1GHz Athlon) enough to play Unreal tournement or Quake 3.

i will be happy to hear any sugestion.

No the ATI would never make it to play Quake 3 acceptibly. AT ALL. You would get less than 20FPS in it. You should get the latest Dell Laptop. They've got GeForce2 Go (basically a GeForce2 MX) cards and a Pentium III 1Ghz paired together with other stuff I can't remember. I've seen benchmarks for it and it gets in excess of 90+ FPS in 1024x768. Perfect 10 from MaximumPC (July 2001 magazine, latest)

Exactly. I just got a Dell Inspiron 8000 with a P3 1GHz and a GF2 Go. I'll give ya some stats in a couple days after it gets here The Dell Inspiron and the Toshiba Satelite(sp?) are the only notebooks I know of that come with the GF2 Go, and the Dell was more customizable, so I went with that one. Check them out for yourself.
