    Why MS Word rocks
    By slipgun July 03, 2001, 09:07 PM

    For my coursework...
I basically have to say why Word rocks and why other word-processors like WordPerfect, Lotus, etc. suck. I've only used Word: what does it have that the others don't?

What is this?!?!? A course sponsored by Micro$soft? Heaven forbid you'd make up your own mind... unbelieveable. Not having used any other Word Procesors, I'd say that puts you in a bit of a pickle.

So, I'll do the next best thing: i'll let you draw your own conclusions, which your instructor/prof/teacher should be letting you do in the first place!! Check out the reviews of Microsoft Office/Word, Corel Office/WordPerfect at http://www.cnet.com and http://www.zdnet.com

And hopefully that will let you do this once class is over with!

Thanks. I never thought to check zdnet and the like...

Well Kword has "frames" and "network groupware collaboration" - M$word don't ;-). Check out review here

If I write anything about KWord being better than Office, I'm gonna get an F....

I like word. It's slow, buggy, and expensive, but it's packed with features.

Besides, anyone who pays for M$ anything is such a fool that he deserves to pay for it.

BTW, 'he' is the appropriate pronoun for unspecified sex; Damn 70s feminism, $%^&ing up our grammar.

I also like Word. It's got a few annoyances, but overall it's very fast, feature packed, and an overall good piece of software.

Though I don't quite think it's fair to say that everything else sucks without having even tried any other products!!

Heh yea go read for tips at zdnet or cnet, they're MS's pets so you're sure to dig up some good stuff about Word.

Everytime Word "Autoformats" for me I want to throw my computer out the window. I hate the fact that you can only sort of turn that feature off.

(Spell check = good) however, but they all do it.

WP is STILL the best word processor out there. It's powerful, intuitive and much easier to use.

Yes, that autoformatting can be really damn annoying sometimes. Here's a little trick for you though. Whenever it does an autoformat, just hit "undo" or "ctrl-z" and it will undo the autoformat.

    Ah another M$ "feature"
It drove me nuts trying to figure out how to turn it off

I am now using Word Perfect and hopefully i will never have to mess with that M$ Orfice again

Star office folks, Star office. It is the 100% free alternative to M$ office.

I prefer Wordstar as my all time favorite, but Word Perfect comes at a close second. Its amazing how much alike Microsoft Word is to Wordstar and Wordperfect. Its like they took the best of both.
