I just got cable from Cox and when I play online games I ping at 50-100 in most cases but when I try to download it starts at around 20k and then drops down to 8-10k where it sticks. I was told I would get 3.1m downstream so I'm kinda confused. Can anyone help me? I'm on the phone with Cox right now so they might be able to help but if you have any clue what's going on it would be apreciated. Thanks.

Get this http://www.tweakfiles.com/networking/cablenut.html Never go to dslreports EVER for help.Go to the above sites cable nut forum instead or here.NEVER dslreports they are morons! Lastly If you cable modem is hooked up with a usb device you won`t ever get above 1.5Mbits a sec.

I'm using a Motorola modem through a D-Link networking card, not USB. I called Cox a couple times but still no luck. I have tried different servers on both fileplanet and download.com. I have also tested it on http://computingcentral.msn.com/internet/speedtest.asp and I continually get 56-60k. This really sucks and I don't know what's wrong. I want fast.

Sweet! I don't know what he did buy the Cox guy just did some tests and I went to test my connection and I got this: http://www.cnet.com/internetservices/g/bm/msn/0003.html?kbps=3022.2&AreaCode=707 . 3022.2 kbps is so fast. If it drops I'll let you guys know but as of now it's soaring.

A 100k file will always test slow on a connection that builds speed. There are some other speed tests out there that use multiple files from 10K to over 1MB and computer your speed that way. DSL Reports has a decent test that uses multiple tests to get your average speed.

Go to www.pcpitstop.com and run their tests, they may be able to come up with a fix.

A friend of mine had the same problem until he changed his NIC card settings. His Duplex mode was set to Full instead of AutoDetect and his Media Type was set to 100BaseTx instead of AutoDetect.
