Back in the summer of '79 (ok so it's meant to go Back in the summer of '69) the arcades were awash with vector graphics powered Asteroids. Big clunky arcade boxes spitting out 'beep beep and blip blip' and 'Stayin' Alive' playing over the loud speaker. Ah… those were the days. For some odd reason, Activision (who own the rights to the classic) decided it was time to dust off those flares again and revamp the Asteroids game and call it um… 'Asteroids'.

We're quite aware of the fact that some of our younger readers may well have been wearing nappies as opposed to donning flares. Thus, for those of you not lucky enough to have lived through the 1970s we'll give you a quick re-cap on the game in question. You'd put your pennies in a cumbersome looking arcade box and have a small triangular space ship start off in the middle of the screen. Then from all angles, big bloody oblong asteroids would come at you. Alas, with your laser you were able to shoot at the asteroids to defend yourself. Easy huh? Not so. The shot-at asteroids would then break up into smaller matter and still come towards you actually making dodging them more difficult. So moving across the screen and dodging and shooting at asteroids was the name of the game back in '79. Things were made a little more difficult by the odd passing flying saucer, which would spit out a few laser bolts at you.
