  • If you enjoyed the excellent RPG Fallout then you'll want to keep an eye on Arcanum from new developers Troika. Formed by a number of developers on Fallout, Troika is looking to create an equally enjoyable title, this time set in an era where magic and early gun powder and steam power based technology uneasily co-exist. From the same perspective as Fallout, gamers can choose to specialize in magic, technology or a bit of both, the catch being that they can cancel out each other's effectiveness to an extent. In the final game, over 80 spells taken from 16 colleges of magic and 56 technological items will be available as well as a number of races with their own benefits such as greater intelligence, beauty or technological competence.

Empire Earth wasn't the only strategy title Sierra had on the floor as they were also showing off Ground Control. Developers Massive Entertainment have made moving the camera easier by adopting a camera movement system more similar to that of a first person shooter and almost every command can be issued with the mouse. They've also dumped the tiresome RTS tradition of building structures and churning units out of them. Instead, units picked and equipped with multiple weapons before the battle will arrive in troop carriers and instead of building ever stronger units to get the edge on your opponent you'll have to concentrate on keeping your regular guys alive so they can become battle hardened veterans that make all the difference in future clashes.
