Wandering into the LA Convention Center a few days ago you could easily have mistaken the place for a B-Movie film set due to the smoke machines, rapidly flashing colored lights and the scantily clad women. However, for the past few days the LA Convention Center has in fact held host to E3, the Electronics Entertainment Expo. If you're visiting Sharky Extreme, chances are you'll already know it's the gaming trade show of the year. So, rather than fill you in on it any more than that we're going to dive straight into what you're here for - news on all (well, a lot of) the games that were on show this year. We're going to cover them publisher by publisher to make it easier to digest, with the odd developer section thrown in for good measure if their line up warrants it.
Short and simple, if you liked Age of Empires you're going to like Empire Earth, due 2001 from Stainless Steel Studios and of course published by Sierra. The development team is headed by Age of Empires Lead Designer Rick Goodman and shows every sign of besting his previous title. Although the same gameplay style remains, building an empire during various time periods in an RTS setting, fans of the original have a lot more to look forward to. Terrain and units are now presented in detailed 3D and there are 150 new units that can be inspired by great heroes such as Napoleon, Patton or even Elvis (we kid you not). There will also be a number of devastating spells such as plague, earthquakes and even a volcano complete with deforming terrain.
