Not Unreal Tournament. The insignificant enemies have been removed. In their stead Epic has added bots, human-like opponents with a frightening level of AI. Most gamers will undoubtedly remember botmatching in the original Unreal and being pleased with the skill level of the computer controlled adversaries. In UT, players will have to fight these bots throughout a variety of levels in a ladder-style event. After each bot or series of bots have been defeated, players will be able to move on to the next duel.
Is there room for a story in this style of play? Epic says yes. In fact, they've hinted at one of the levels being an immediate prequel to the original Unreal. We take that to mean some sort of prison brawl on one of the decks of the Vortex Rikers, the ship that played host to the first level of the original Unreal. Other than that snippet, little else is known about the game's first person story or gameplay.
Just as well, because even though UT isn't "Multiplayer Only" its strength will lay in multiplayer, only. Epic has already revealed four distinct modes of play during a multiplayer game. These include the now standard Capture the Flag, which needs no explanation, an Assault Match, a Tournament Match and a Domination Match. In an Assault Match, players will be divided into two teams, one to defend a structure and another to raid it for a certain object. Points are awarded for the successful destruction and protection of the object. The Tournmanet Match is a glorified deathmatch with a time/frag limit. Finally, the Domination Match involves two teams holding their ground around certain markers. The longer each team remains on the markers, the more points they'll accumulate.
