"It'll be different", says Epic's Brandon Reinhart, "we're doing a lot of low level changes to the Unreal engine for UT". The enhancements in Unreal Tournament over the original Unreal are numerous. Thankfully, and most importantly, Epic has addressed and corrected the initial netplay problems experienced early on by the Unreal engine. Anyone who's downloaded the 220 patch can attest to that. In addition, UT will feature at least two entirely new weapons and improvements to the entire original arsenal. A new user interface, spectator cams, voice messaging, new command line prompts and a host of other additions will also be found in UT.

Oh and those bots we mentioned earlier? Not only has Epic enhanced their AI even further, but players who wish to do so will be able to play with and against bots, alongside human competitors, in all four of UT's multiplayer capacity.

Perhaps the best analogy to use to describe UT is Capcom's classic Street Fighter 2. Players fought opponents comparable in strength to their own throughout a number of levels in a ladder environment. Could you play it alone? Sure. Was it more fun (read: designed to play) with someone else? As is the case with a lot of games, you betcha. Be on the lookout for this one next month.
