Although nobody has actually yet seen the game- the demand is strong and here's a brief summary of what we do know and what to expect:
For those of you that don't remember Duke Nukem 3D, let us briefly remind you. Duke was a hot little number running on the 2D sprite based Build engine which, at the time, was considered to be quite capable. Then came along Quake with its flashy 3D engine and well, the Build engine didn't seem quite as hot anymore. But Duke still managed to fight his way to the top and win over a large fan base. Those left hungry for more can of course stop 'chewing bubble gum' as 3D Realms have for sometime been working on a sequel…
In Duke Nukem Forever, Duke returns but this time to the setting of Las Vegas, Nevada (strippers will obviously return). Duke's archenemy, Dr. Proton, a massive 7'6" cyborg (who was featured in the first Duke game) has taken over Area 51 and nuked the hell out of Vegas. Utilizing the spacecraft in Area 51, Dr. Proton has contacted and recruited aliens from around the galaxy for his army. Groovy. As if that wasn't enough, he's also reanimated the Area 51 guards, making them mindless Zombies that'll obey his every wink. They've also had a few biomechanic alterations done too (basically they'll end up resembling a cross between Cher and a British Bulldog). Dr. Proton is going for world domination and it'll be up to you (Duke) to stop him in his tracks.
Fans of the original will be happy to know that Duke will continue to dish out his smart-ass remarks in the sequel (will he chew bubble gum though?). As mentioned above, the levels are said to feature locations such as the Las Vegas strip, Area 51, the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. Little is known about the enemies and weapons but knowing 3D Realms, it's a safe bet to assume there will be plenty of both…
