Factor 5 / LucasArts
Other companies must look at LucasArts with a certain level of envy. One would be hard pressed to name a LucasArts title that didn't obtain some measure of success, one that didn't break any ground or set a standard. To their credit, LucasArts has a limitless pool of talent that constantly churn out these winning games, be they the classic Schafer adventure or the slightly on-the-fringe Afterlife. However, when debating the secret of their success, one can't overlook the simple fact that LucasArts owns the video game publishing rights for anything Star Wars, thanks to George Lucas himself.
Ever since the world was treated to the first movie back in the late 1970's, the entire Star Wars universe has enjoyed a constantly increasing fan base. Books, toys, videos, games, posters and other paraphernalia are all eagerly bought by loyal followers. So it would come as no surprise that LucasArts' Star Wars series has enjoyed its share of success.
Make no mistake though. While other companies would be content to simply develop and publish a halfway decent game under such a popular label, LucasArts constantly opts to take the high road. All Star Wars titles to date (Rebellion who?) show signs of sweat, blood and effort in their development. Their latest, Rogue Squadron 3D, is no different. Read on to see why Rogue Squadron, an admittedly simple game, not only captures the essence of the whole Star Wars saga, but delivers a level of gameplay that will keep you coming back for more, Star Wars fan or not.
