You take on the role of Sanjuro Makabe shortly before he is sent on a mission to assassinate Gabriel once and for all. At your disposal is one of four powerful 30-foot mechas, referred to as Mobile Combat Armor or MCA's in the game. Each one has their strengths and weaknesses. Their tradeoffs come solely in their speed vs. armor ratio in mecha and vehicle mode.

Each MCA has the ability to transform into a hovercraft in order to escape sticky situations. Unfortunately, weapons can't be used in this mode, however the hovercraft's speed more than makes up for any lack of firepower. Each MCA vehicle has different acceleration, top speed, handling and jump height.

Each MCA is capable of carrying any of the 8 high powered weapons that become available to you throughout the game. These weapons include the sniper rifle, rocket launcher and many more. Monolith did an excellent job of capturing the feel of the destructive power of all the MCA weaponry. A skirmish between two MCA's will leave a city block in total devastation.

Varying scenarios will force you to leave your MCA behind at times, and do battle the old fashioned way: on foot. Any Fallen soldiers that feel up to the task of stopping you however, will have to answer to you and your two best friends (your other two best friends), a pair of Kawamori A47 semi automatic handguns. Also available to you will be various dropped weapons that range from a silenced uzi to a powerful Tube-launched Optically-sighted Wire-guided rocket, more commonly referred to as a TOW. The weapon selection, for both modes of play, offers a complete spectrum of firepower, with only 2 or 3 disagreeable choices.
