Of course, you need money to upgrade your car, repair it and kit it out with various add-ons (nitros etc…). Getting money isn't all that easy but there are a number of ways to fill your pockets with green backs. First and foremost you need to race faster than any of your opponents finishing the race in one piece (an achievement in itself). An interesting objective is to break police 'Speed Radars'- hence the title Speed Busters. Each radar (could be mounted on anything from a motorcycle to a chopper) in each track has a minimum speed requirement. When you pass the radar at higher than the minimum speed you are rewarded. Everytime you bust up their speed measurer you get a donation of money (don't try this in LA kids) from said friendly policeman. Obviously Ubi Soft hasn't had any experience with C.H.I.P.S, who would 'bust' you right on the spot. Yes, the police in Speed Busters have lost their minds and for once instead of writing you tickets the boys in blue give you money. A novel idea and if only all police personnel were such charitable fine folk.
Ubi Soft has diced with 3D engines in the past. For Speed Busters, a renovated version of the impressive F1 Racing Simulation engine has been exceptionally dressed. With a Voodoo2 SLI setup the Glide version is extremely fast in resolutions up to 1024x768. Of course D3D compliant cards are also very much catered for and TNT owners can go as high as 1600x1200 (in theory that is) and/or try 32-bit color. Special effects also add yet more eye candy and bring the environments to life. Colored light effects, dynamics ambient light, transparency effects on surfaces (like water), and particle system enhanced smoke, sparks, rain and snow to name but a few.
