The first new single player level takes place in Pale, Bosnia. Players must track down a Serb war criminal. The terrain is extremely rough, and movement will more often than not be at a snail's pace. A light snow doesn't help matters much either. The first priority is to raid a Serb mountain base in order to get intel on enemy, and the war criminal's, positions. Once accomplished, a small Serbian outpost must be cleared of all resistance… not an easy task, especially when the war criminal needs to be captured alive. From there, the unit must retake a seiged UN outpost and defend it from enemy fire until reinforcements arrive.
The next scenario is especially noteworthy because it takes place in 1968, during the middle of the Vietnam war, at Thon An Thai. A B52 has been shot down and a rescue team has been sent out to extract the sole remaining survivor: the pilot. Unfortunately for him and your unit, the rescue chopper went down in bad weather and you've been assigned to locate the crash remains and the pilot. This level does an excellent job of capturing the feel of a dense jungle. Visibility is always bad and is hampered further by nightfall and a driving rain. It's very easy to get lost and often times players will find themselves going in circles, coming upon a landmark they had passed only minutes before. The use of the compass in this scenario is essential for survival.
The final scenario is in Rayat, Iraq. US intel has found a biochemical facility deep inside the country. Your Rangers must destroy all 5 biochem caches. Doing so is much harder than it sounds. Not only must you ration the explosives to take out all 5 caches, but the toxic clouds that spew forth from the destroyed locations must be avoided at all cost. The next mission requires you to bring evidence of the bio weapons to the UN. This is a classic "escort a slow truck while enemies take pot shots" mission and is one of the toughest to complete. If you manage to come through in one piece, you'll be rewarded by one of the most "fun" aspects of the game: tracking. An Iraqi commander knows the whereabouts of a bunker containing precursor VX chemicals which was previously unbeknownst to the US. While avoiding detection at all times, you have to track the general to the bunker and light it up.
All that glitters isn't gold however. While Ranger Team Bravo adds some great aspects to a game that was sorely in need of them, Zombie failed at improving the horrible AI. The game's AI is sub-par on both sides of the coin: enemies and buddies. Enemy placement is great. Often times they are set up for an ambush, with gunners on either side of you. However, for the most part, enemies are stationary objects. They don't give chase nor flight. This is especially disappointing in the Vietnam scenario where guerilla warfare was practiced heavily by the NVA. Engage and pull back, engage and pull back. By using this method in the war, 3 straggling soldiers were made to seem like 13. Instead, the enemies never move, and become somewhat like shooting gallery targets for the Rangers. This is true of all the enemies in all the scenarios.
