May High-end Gaming PC Buyer's Guide - Page 6

By Ryan "Speedy" Wissman May 29, 2003

Mouse: Logitech MX700 Cordless Mouse

Cost: $59
Months on list: 2
Price Change: $0

The Logitech MX700 mouse is impressive, and is able to out perform nearly all other optical mice on the market. The MX700 captures 4.7 mega pixels of data per second at a resolution of 800 dpi, specs that are nothing short of stunning. Its own docking station means that you won't have to remove or replace batteries, simply dock the mouse when you're finished, and come back to a recharged mouse. Most importantly, the MX700 is extremely comfortable, and is durable enough for long sessions of UT2003 deathmatches. As it stands, the MX700 Cordless is the optical mouse to own.

Make sure you have a proper mousing surface with an optical mouse. These mice track best on darker non-solid color surfaces, especially clear and white, and a black matte or wood grain finish is the best bet for an optical mouse.

Keyboard: Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard

Cost: $39
Months on list: 5
Price Change: -$7

We are firm believers in the split-design keyboard, and while they may initially feel awkward, once acclimated with them they can significantly reduce strain and fatigue. We love the Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard, with its useful multimedia buttons, and will continue to recommend it in this guide again.

Alternatively, if you prefer the standard-style keyboard, the Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard is an excellent choice. We have been using Microsoft keyboards here at SE for years and they have stood up well to our abuse, which is truly a hard-worn accomplishment.
