The biggest price drop, by far, is the $130 cut on the price of the 2.2GHz P4 XEON. But while this processor's drop to its new price of $569 is certainly noteworthy, most readers will be more interested in the drops on Intel's fastest single-processor desktop P4's. With 2GHz Northwood P4 processors available for well under $300, gamers looking to build an Intel-based speed demon can do so without breaking the bank.
With the recently-rumored Athlon price drops already being reflected in AMD processor pricing and continued drops on the prices of higher-end P4 processors, those preparing to build new systems (or upgrade existing ones) will be getting a lot for their money. And with the entry-level Northwood, the P4 2.0A, now available for about the same price as a 1.73GHz Athlon XP 2100+, cost will be less of a factor than it has been in the past for buyer's choosing between AMD and Intel platforms.
How about Intel and AMD prices on the same page? Here you have it, starting with high-end CPUs.
