What is with the price on the OEM 2.53GHz/533 P4?? Hot on the heels of last week's $64 price increase, which we were willing to call a correction, we see another $22 price jump in this week's guide. Either vendors were underwhelmed by the Athlon XP 2200+'s debut, or something else is going on here. But at least there is some good news for those who don't want or need a new 533MHz bus Pentium 4... the $24 drop on the price of the Northwood Pentium 4-2.4 GHz, brings it down to a new price of $369.
In other news, this week's guide sees the belated addition of the 1.7GHz Celeron to our charts, hopefully to the delight of more budget-conscious Intel fans looking for a cheaper alternative to the Pentium 4 in planning their next upgrades.
With the Thoroughbred release causing less of a stir than we might have hoped, this week's guide can best be called... uneventful. But with AMD prices already low and Intel's performance impressively high, there are still plenty of gems to be found by those looking to build the systems of their dreams.
How about Intel and AMD prices on the same page? Here you have it, starting with high-end CPUs.
