Once again, the only significant price drops in this week's Intel chart come in on the highest-end processors. And as we noted last week, even after this week's addition $25 cut, leaving the retail flagship Pentium 4-3.06GHz at $473, the next-fastest Pentium 4-2.8GHz retail CPU is still a better deal at $326.
The huge price drops on Athlon XP processors may well lure undecided buyers to the AMD side of the fence, and the significantly lower price of the Athlon XP 3000+ will certainly please high-end AMD buyers. But with recent Intel charts keeping prices in the ballpark, it may not be enough to convince any Intel-philes to switch over. Whether one leans toward Intel or AMD, though, it's nice to see some downward movement at the high-end of both price charts.
