While a $14 drop in the price of the 3.6GHz Pentium 4 XEON is nothing to scoff at, the rest of the Intel guide is pretty sedate, and it would have been nice to see a bit more excitement in the Intel section of the guide. We do notice a marked difference between the LGA 775 and Socket 478 lines, and while the newer models aren't showing significant cuts, most of the Pentium 4 5xx and 6xx CPUs are dropping consistently this week.
Overall, it's been a mostly uneventful week in CPU prices, with the odd surprise thrown in for good measure. A $100 drop on the Athlon FX-55 is definitely the high point, and helps keep things somewhat interesting. But given its high retail price, it's hard to get too excited. There were also a few nominal cuts on both the Intel and AMD sides, but we're still not looking at across-the-board movement and bargain hunters will need to be choosy.
