This week's Intel section of the guide is something of a mixed bag, with a handful of nice price drops scattered among an otherwise sedate chart. Most prices, you'll find, are right where they were in last week's guide. But hidden among the rough are a couple of diamonds, including a $29 drop in the price of the 3.2GHz Pentium D 840, and $22 off both the 2.93 GHz Celeron 340 (Socket 478) and 3.0 GHz Pentium D 830. There were also some smaller cuts through the Pentium 4 6xx models, making it a pretty good week for Intel buyers.
This week's price guide continues the trend we saw begin last week, with modest-to-significant price cuts peppering an otherwise bland CPU price list. Even though this week's drops are smaller in number and dollar amount, these are very welcome and we're not about to look a gift horse in the mouth. In fact, with all the new processors AMD and Intel have been releasing lately, these cuts are hopefully a sign of things to come.
