While the AMD chart was a nice combination of price cuts and new model introductions, this week's Intel chart is as stagnant as we've seen in quite a while. The biggest drop, in fact, is all of $6 off last week's price on the 3.2GHz Pentium D 840. Few others prices dropped at all, and none by more than a few dollars. Even the normally active Pentium 4 6xx series processors failed to budge even a single dollar, and these illustrate quite clearly the Intel trends.
Unfortunately, this week's CPU guide is mostly devoid of the scattered price drops we'd seen over the past two weeks, with a large drop to the Athlon 64 3700+ providing the only significant action. But what is lacking in pure downward price movement is partially made up for by new product introductions, with a host of new dual core Athlon 64 X2 models making their debut. And if history is any indicator, new products generally lead to lower prices in the long term.
