While Intel Pentium 4 and Celeron prices are holding far more steady, on average, than what we saw in this week's AMD charts, we do still get one significant price shift: a $26 drop in the price of the 3.4GHz Pentium 4 XEON. There were a few smaller price cuts on both the Celeron and Pentium 4 ends of the list, but nothing was able to reach double-digits. Hopefully, we'll a bit more activity in next week's edition of the guide, especially if Intel wants the Pentium D to meet the current Athlon 64 X2 price drops.
Lower CPU prices continue to be the scattered exception to the rule, but where these do appear, at least the dollar amounts are big enough to make us take notice. With a $100+ price cut in the AMD section and some significant drops hitting the Athlon 64 FX-57 and Athlon 64 X2 models, there's plenty to like in this week's edition of the guide. Even Intel got into the act a bit this week, and we hope this type of pricing activity becomes less the exception and more the rule.
