While an $18 drop in the price of the 3.06GHz Celeron 345J and a $10 cut to the price of the 3.0GHz Pentium 4 530J keep this week's Intel chart from being a complete wash, the majority of tracked Celeron and Pentium 4 prices either held steady, with some moving up or down slightly. The only exception was the Pentium 840 Extreme Edition, which spiked by $30, but at a $1,035 retail price, that's not as big a jump as it looks. Overall, it's unlikely that many (perhaps even any) potential Intel processor buyers are going to get too excited about this week's guide.
Neither the AMD nor the Intel sections of this week's CPU price guide contain much in the way of good news for prospective CPU buyers. The few price drops that can be found, unfortunately, are lost in the midst of the glut of prices that are either holding steady or inching upwards. All in all, it's been a disappointing week for the Weekly CPU Price Guide, not only in terms of overall price levels, but also in the dearth of new product announcements.
