While the majority of this week's Intel prices are holding steady, a few significant drops are scattered among them. Any other week, a $13 cut to the price of the Pentium 840 Extreme would have seemed pretty nice; but this pales in comparison to the hefty $46 drop in the price of the Pentium D 830 and the whopping $176 that was sliced off the price of the Pentium D 840. This was obviously in response to the low introductory pricing on the Pentium D 900 series, and to get the Pentium D 800 series down to more reasonable levels.
Last week, we asked if we would still keep seeing significant drops scattered amidst the CPU prices in future guides. Well we are happy to report that for this week, at least, the answer is "yes." While most of the processors tracked in this guide are priced just as they were in recent weeks, a handful of significant drops will help keep things interesting for CPU bargain hunters. This is especially true for Intel dual core buyers, as we finally see a few deals on the Pentium D 830 and 840.
