While the Intel section of the guide may not have the same deep, consistent price cuts of the AMD charts, it does nonetheless contain some modest drops, along with a few significant ones. As expected, Intel has lowered prices on many of their Pentium D models, and there is now a wide selection of Intel dual core processors at the $100-$200 range. The most interesting are the $100 Pentium D 805 (2.66 GHz) and the $189 Pentium D 940 (3.2 GHz), both of which help temper AMD's price drops somewhat.
Between the impact of new products, like the Core 2, that are making their way into the market, and the fact that this is the time of year when prices historically drop, this week's downward price movement is not unexpected. Hopefully, we will see more drops in the coming weeks, as the two camps reprice existing/older models to compete with both the emerging Core 2 Duo/Extreme and their own Pentium D and Athlon 64-based lines.
