Unfortunately, there is no Intel analogue to the huge Athlon 64 FX-62 price decrease we saw in the AMD charts. The best this section of the guide has to offer, in fact, is an $18 drop in the price of the 2.93GHz Core 2 Extreme x6800; and given its $965 price, that's not likely to cause much excitement. Even though the pricing activity is nominal, we continue to see downward movement in the Core 2 lines, and in addition to the Core 2 Extreme x6800, prices on the Core 2 Duo E6400 to E6700 processor range also dropped.
Overall CPU prices, for the most, remain steady across the AMD and Intel sections of the guide. A handful of modest price drops, and one huge one that hit the Athlon 64 FX-62, are scattered here and there; but these are few enough, and far enough between, that few readers are likely to rush for their wallets as a result of anything they see in this week's edition. We're also hoping to see supplies of AMD's AM2-based processors to improve, and to see the Athlon 64 X2 5000+ and 5200+ reach mass-market distribution levels.
