Unfortunately, the price drops in this week's Intel charts are few, small, and far between. The biggest decrease, in fact, is a $10 drop in the price of the still $840 3.8GHz XEON. And while a few other Intel processors fell by even more modest amounts, and the 2.93 GHz Core 2 Extreme X6800 jumped by $21, most held right where they've been for weeks.
Most of the AMD and Intel CPU prices we've been tracking are holding steady in this week's guide, with few dropping by more than a couple of dollars and most not dropping at all. But we do have new products debuting in this week's edition, combined with a handful of modest price cuts, to help keep things interesting. The best news is the emergence of the Athlon 64 X2 5000+, as this 2.6 GHz model was virtually nonexistent in the retail channels until just recently. Close on its heels is the Athlon 64 X2 5200+, which we hope to see available in mass market levels very soon.
