The prices tracked in the Intel section of our guide, unfortunately, showed more consistency than their AMD counterparts, with no price dropping by more than $5 and few processors dropping at all. And given that that $5 drop was on the Pentium 965 Extreme, leaving it at $970, it's barely worth mentioning at all. With AMD slicing down the price of many sub-$100 Athlon 64 models, we anticipated the same deal with Intel, but so far, none of the entry-level Pentium 4 or Pentium D models has dropped in price.
Although a handful of gems can be found scattered among the rough, most of the AMD and Intel processors tracked in this guide continue to hold steady for yet another consecutive week. Sure, there was some downward movement in the $100 or lower Athlon 64 range, but there was very little news for mainstream or high-end buyers to celebrate. It's as if December's chill has frozen them in place; but hopefully we won't have to wait until Spring to see prices start to thaw.
