We assumed that after AMD lowered the boom on some high-end Athlon 64 X2 models last week, Intel would have to follow suit, but so far, there has been no real movement in Core 2 Duo or Extreme processor prices. Unfortunately, only three of the CPUs we track in the Intel charts dropped at all compared to last week's price; and the biggest was a modest $6 drop to the retail cost of the Celeron D 326. Most Intel processors are right where they had been in last week's guide, and in the weeks that preceded it.
Someone must have ratted us out to Santa because he didn't come through with any huge price drops in this, the last weekly CPU price guide before Christmas. But given how far you can already stretch your processor-buying dollar these days, we might have to take up his slack and just say thanks for the current gift of exceptional CPU value.
