Unfortunately, there are no significant Intel XEON price drops to counter what we saw in the AMD Opteron section of the guide, with almost all of the prices we track holding steady and a few moving slightly upwards. It's pretty well the same in the other areas of our Intel chart, and the Core 2 selection is stable, while there is some upward movement with a few Pentium D processors. We have also updated the XEON section of the chart, replacing some older CPUs with newer models.
It seems we've experienced something of a thaw, this week, as a number of CPU prices that had previously seemed frozen in place, dropped by as much as a $120. Unfortunately, the desktop market remains very stable, although workstation and small server buyers have a lot to cheer about. All we can do, now, is enjoy these lower Opteron prices and hold out hope that additional price drops filter down from the server to the desktop sector.
