While the overwhelming majority of Intel processor prices we track continue to hold steady, there are two notable price drops in this week's chart, both of which are in the server area. The larger of the two is a $55 in the XEON 5160, which just debuted in last week's guide. But the $17 drop in the price of the XEON 5110, given its $228 price tag, is actually the more significant price decrease, percentage-wise. With all of the price movement on AMD Athlon 64 FX and X2 processors, it is surprising that Intel is continuing to hold the line on their mainstream and high-end Core 2 Duo models.
We are happy to report a second CPU price guide in a row to contain significant price drops. And unlike last week's edition, this one has something for both Intel and AMD buyers, though the AMD side of things - especially the Athlon 64 X2 price drops - will once again have a bit more for buyers to get excited about.
