A $19 drop in the tracked price of the 2.66 GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6700 is about as much we have to report in this week's Intel chart. But given the still lofty $978 price tag on this quad core processor, and the fact that elsewhere in the chart, the XEON 5140 and 5150's went up by $12 and $10, respectively, that sole two-digit price drop is unlikely to stir much excitement. The mainstream Core 2 Duo models continue to exhibit stable prices for another week in a row, and Intel has yet to respond to the double- and triple-digit Athlon 64 X2/FX price drops from a few weeks back.
For yet another week, the overwhelming majority of the prices we track are holding steady - a trend that has been very consistent on the Intel side. Neither of the two major areas of the guide contains any significant price drops; in fact, even the insignificantly small decreases were few and far between.
