Once again, AMD starts the price cutting game off, but Intel continually refuses to play along. This must be quite disheartening to potential Core 2 Duo buyers, especially since this week's Intel charts contain absolutely nothing to counter the double-digit drops we saw in the AMD section of the guide. Only six tracked Intel CPU prices dropped at all, in fact, with none falling by more than $8. Even worse, the price of the 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo E6700 continues to increase - jumping another $9 this week.
As Winter gives way to Spring, we seem to be seeing a thaw in the CPU Price Guide, as well. While price drops may not be as abundant as we'd like them to be, there are enough of them peppered throughout the guide to help keep things interesting for prospective CPU buyers. The only problem being that AMD is shouldering the brunt of the CPU price drops, while Intel is standing pat. But mainstream Athlon 64 X2 prices are so attractive, that we might see a few Intel Core 2 fans jumping ship to get some of that AMD value.
