After the excitement of last week's wild price drops on Intel Core 2 Duo and Quad processors, it's tough to imagine a repeat performance. Our prediction turned out to be spot on, and this week's Intel chart, unfortunately, looks a lot like the AMD section of the guide. A $14 drop in the price of the Core 2 Quad Q6600 and a $10 cut to the price of the Core 2 Duo E6700, while not unwelcome, just aren't likely to elicit the same kind of reaction that last week's three-digit drops had.
Alas, the processor market seems to have settled back down this week, and the vast majority of prices we track in the Weekly CPU Price Guide are stable. After a few weeks of guides that contained some very significant pricing activity, we're now back to the point where any price decreases are few, modest, and far between. But hopefully this dry spell will be a relatively short one. As we move into the thin summer months, AMD and Intel just might try to lure buyers away from the sun and sand with a few well-placed price drops.
