Unfortunately, the only significant price change we have to report in this week's Intel charts is a $16 increase in the tracked price of the XEON 5160. An $8 drop in the price of the XEON 5120, meanwhile, was the week's only price drop. As you can imagine, this makes for an extremely stable period in the Core 2 Duo, Quad and Extreme areas, where prices have not shown a significant drop in months.
The overwhelming majority of the CPU prices we track across the two major sections of the guide seem to be frozen in place, and most of the pricing activity has taken place in the server or workstation-based processor markets. Only a few small drops, along with a few price increases, can be found scattered amidst prices that have mostly been unchanged for weeks. We are hearing rumors that AMD and Intel may be gearing up for another desktop CPU price war this summer, which would be great news for bargain hunters.
