Unfortunately, the significant price drops found in the AMD chart did not make a repeat performance in the Intel processor listings. Here we see mostly stable prices, and in fact, this might be one of the most consistent weeks we've ever witnessed from Intel. The entire Core 2 Duo, Quad and Extreme processor lines were virtual copies of our last price update, and the two largest drops were of -$3 and -$2, respectively.
This is a great week to go shopping for a new processor... assuming you're looking in the AMD aisle, of course. The price of many Athlon 64 X2 models dropped significantly, and the top-end Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is now under $170. Even the Quad FX-based Athlon 64 FX-74 dropped to just over $300, and AMD is certainly trying to put the pressure on Intel. So far, this strategy has not elicited any response from Intel, but word on the street is that an answer will be forthcoming.
