After last week's crazy AMD price decreases, we expected Intel to come out with all guns blazing. Unfortunately, there was very little in the way of downward movement, although one processor did stand out rather prominently. The 2.4 GHz Core 2 Quad Q6600 shaved $75 off its retail price, and helped the "only mainstream quad core processor" hit the $400 baseline. The only other price drop on the Intel chart as a $4 cut to the entry-level Celeron D 331.
This CPU price guide has not been as appealing as we initially thought, and it looks like we need to wait at least another week for Intel to slash prices in response to the AMD initiative. Other than a few outliers, it was business as usual in this week's CPU charts, especially when it comes to mainstream Core 2 Duo and Athlon 64 X2 processors. The Core 2 Quad Q6600 provided the lone ray of sunshine, as it was brought down to an even $400.
