As in the AMD sections of the guide, all but three of the prices we track in the Intel charts either held steady, inched upwards, or fell by too little to take much notice of. But just as in the AMD sections, those three dropped by enough to attract plenty of notice. And if a $124 cut in the price of the Core 2 Extreme QX6800 isn't enough to make you agree, then the staggering $375 and $420 drops in the prices of the quad-core XEON 5345 and 5355 processors should certainly do the trick.
Although most of the CPU prices we track, particularly on the lower ends the two camps' processor lines, continue to hold steady, we're happy to report some noteworthy drops on some of the higher-end offerings from both AMD and Intel. Intel was certainly the more active of the two, and if we're lucky, the coming weeks will see the two CPU powerhouses continue their price war.
