There was slightly better news in the Intel chart, and while only a few of the prices we track dropped, $11 off the popular 3.0 GHz Core 2 Duo E6850 is certainly a highlight. Unfortunately, the remainder of the notable price decreases hit already high-priced CPUs - for example, the $28 drop we saw in the tracked price of the Core 2 Extreme QX6800 represents only a paltry 3% drop to its current price of $1030. It is much the same story for the double-digit cuts to the Core 2 Extreme QX6700 and QX6850, both of which are hovering right around the $1000 mark.
As the summer weather has cooled down, so too have the prices we track in the weekly CPU price guide. Over the past few weeks, significant price drops have become more and more of a rarity, and this week is no exception to that seeming rule. But hopefully the coming end of another quarter will bring some news, whether in the form of price drops or new product debuts.
