The Intel side of the processor equation, as in the AMD section of the guide, continues to show stagnant prices. The biggest drop in this part of the guide, in fact, is only a paltry $5 off the price of a 2.66 GHz XEON 5150 DC, with only three other tracked processors dropping at all. Even worse, the 2.93 GHz Core 2 Extreme X6800 jumped by $10 this week, and there was no good news in terms of noticeably lower prices on any desktop Core 2 Duo, Quad or Extreme processors.
The stability in our CPU price guide is becoming more and more of a trend, and price drops are still few and far between in this week's price guide, with none of the prices we track from either camp dropping by more than $6. But with new product introductions from both AMD and Intel rumored to be just around the corner, maybe we can get back on the beam as these new models force prices down on the existing processor lines.
