Although it was an otherwise uneventful week for Intel CPU prices, a $16 drop in the tracked price of the 2.93 GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6800 help break up the monotony. The rest of the Celeron D, Pentium D and Core 2 prices we track, however, mostly held steady, with more zeroes appearing in this week's "change" column than we've seen in quite a while. This was especially evident in the Core 2 Duo section, where not a single processor changed in price. Intel did announce the 3.0 GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6850 quad-core this week, but it will not be available until November 12, so this did nothing to drop prices at the high-end.
Overall CPU prices continue to stagnate across both of the major sections of our price guide, with few AMD or Intel processors dropping at all and none falling by enough to stir much in the way of excitement. Hopefully, this ongoing streak of largely uneventful CPU price guides will be broken sooner, rather than later.
