As if meant to mirror what we saw in the AMD charts, the monotony of an otherwise unexciting Intel chart is broken up by a $50 drop in the tracked price of the 2.66 GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6700. Unfortunately, though, the next-biggest Intel price change is a $23 increase in the price of the XEON 5140. In fact, we find more upward price movement in the mainstream Core 2 Duo/Quad market, as several processors have jumped by $5-$7.
A pair of $50 price drops, one from each camp, helps add a little bit of spice to an otherwise bland issue of the weekly CPU price guide. But unfortunately, these occasional pleasant surprises have yet to form into any discernible sense of a downward price trend. The only bright spot is the fact that overall CPU value may never have been higher, especially in the mainstream sub-$200 sector.
