Intel CPU prices, meanwhile, seem to be almost frozen in place, with the only changes being a couple of modest price increases. Thankfully, though, these were fairly small upward price movements - a $5 increase to the price of the Core 2 Duo E4400 (2.0 GHz) and a larger $10 spike on the price of the Core 2 Extreme QX6850 (3.0 GHz). Otherwise, it was a long string of zeroes in the Intel price change column.
Unfortunately, the first weekly CPU price guide of 2008 looks very much like the final edition of the past year. Only one of the AMD and Intel CPU prices we track fell at all, and it was a modest drop, at that. But we hope this is just a slow start to what will be a more eventful year, especially once both CPU giants start ramping up their upcoming product releases.
