If you thought that this week's AMD prices seemed to be holding steady, just wait until to see the Intel charts. Only two of the Intel CPU prices we track dropped at all, and this only amounted to $4 off the price of the 2.66 GHz Core 2 Quad Q6700 and a measly $1 cut to the 1.86 GHz Core 2 Duo E6300. The rest of the processors either held steady or even worse, inched slightly upwards. On the positive side, Intel recently announced a pile of new 45nm Core 2 Duo, Quad and Extreme processors, many of which will be available on January 20 and at very competitive prices, so stay tuned.
Alas, last week's surprise January thaw has passed, with most of the AMD and Intel CPU prices we track going back to their previously-frozen state. After finally seeing multiple modest-to-significant price drops, this did not start a trend and we seem to be back where we had been in previous editions of the guide, with the overwhelming majority of prices holding steady.
