While the majority of the prices we track in the Intel charts held as steady as their AMD counterparts, a few did fall by enough to help keep things interesting. The largest Intel price change was a $20 drop in the tracked price of the 3.0 GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9650. But the $19 drop that we see on the XEON 5140 is more significant, percentage-wise, given that this processor sells for about half the price of the QX9650. The 2.4 GHz Core 2 Quad Q6600 also looks a bit better this week, falling by $10, and driving its price below $240.
Thankfully, this week's CPU price guide contains more in the way of drops than we have seen in recent weeks, especially in the Intel processor chart. While lower prices do remain the exception, and not the norm, that is still better than those weeks when any decrease was pretty much non-existent.
