While most of the prices in the Intel charts are holding as steady as their AMD counterparts, a few fell by enough to draw some notice, with one processor really dropping off the table. The 3.16 GHz Core 2 Duo E8500 had $70 shaved off its retail price, which was not really that big a surprise, as this only brought its price closer to the 3.0 GHz Core 2 Duo E8400. Several other Core 2 processors fell by double digits, including the Core 2 Duo E8400 (-$15) and Core 2 Quad Q6600 (-$10).
This week's CPU prices are something of a mixed bag. The AMD side of the equation shows almost total stability, while we're starting to see at least some movement in the Intel chart. The $70 drop to the Core 2 Duo E8500 is welcome news, but the majority of the prices we track continue to hold steady. The Intel Core 2 price drops help keep things interesting and give us hope that the coming weeks will bring more of the same.
